Help with permissions, the Fn key and your licence.

Dictation does not start when I hold Fn

• Open System Settings › Keyboard. Set “Press 🌐 key to” to Do Nothing, so the Globe key is free for Heron.
• Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and make sure Heron is on. Heron needs this to notice the shortcut in any app.
• Quit and reopen Heron after changing either setting.

Nothing is typed, or it goes to the wrong place

• Click into a text field first, then hold Fn. Heron types where your cursor is.
• If no field has focus, the dictation is saved and the pill shows Paste. Press ⌘V in the field you want.
• Some apps block typed input in secure fields, such as password boxes. That is macOS, not Heron.

Heron cannot hear me

• Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and make sure Heron is on.
• Check the input device in System Settings › Sound. Heron uses the system input.
• On the first run, wait for the speech model to finish downloading, about 600 MB.

Licence and trial

• The trial lasts 7 days with every feature. After that, your notes stay readable and dictation pauses until you buy.
• One licence covers up to 3 Macs. Activation needs a connection once per Mac.
